ELDERS REACT TO NYAN CAT

DAMNNNNN that is some skills my good sir!
Olivia Penpraze.
19 years old.
Died from a Suicide attempt that left her brain dead. Her parents made the hardest decision of their lives by turning off her life support.
She had a Tumblr account with over 900 posts sharing her emotional turmoil, dealings with depression, loneliness & thoughts about her wanting to take her own life.
The only response she got, was insensitive assholes, like the majority of people on Tumblr, encouraging her to do it. She was bullied consistently.
Olivia attempted to kill herself every year in May 1st since 2008.In May 2012, her short life came to an end.
I know most people can’t tolerate posts like Olivia’s, whom find it attention seeking.
My point to you people is…EXACTLY!!
Of course it’s attention seeking what else it?! People share that part of themselves over the Internet because they obviously feel they can’t talk to anyone they know nor do they think anyone would care.
All I want is for people to cut out the bullying & talk to people like Olivia.
A conversation to someone in desperation could save their life.If people can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.
You never know…
What you say could be used to decide whether they live or die.Even if youre a b&w blog, reblog this.
whatever type of blog you are just reblog
if you dont reblog this youre just heartless, this is a tragedy that needs to end.
Not reblogging because of the LOL YER HEARTLESS IF YEW DON’T REBLOG comments but because this is actually a subject I’ve become to feel pretty damn strongly about. And not even going to touch the part where people bully others like this because WOW um…do I really need to say anything on that? You’d think people would know better. But mostly to touch on the subject of ignoring these OBVIOUS SIGNS-
The fact is that there are people who use things such as depression to seek out attention only. I’ve seen it my whole life and it effected a great deal of how I viewed the subject in general, particularly in highschool: they were just feeling sad, why couldn’t they get over it?
Then hahaha, I got diagnosed with clinical depression out of hs and I’ve been on and off medication and been seeing counseling whenever I can afford to; usually just school counseling. It gets bad. Really bad. Bad enough that my doctors wanted to test me for being bipolar but lo and behold…my mother, who’s insurance pays for this, doesn’t want me to be tested because she doesn’t want another “crazy person” in her life or something. (You guessed it, I am at heavy risk of being bipolar genetic-wise anyways.)
Basically all I’m saying is I know how most people view us. Because I used to view people that way; because let’s face it, there are people who fake a mental illness to get attention. But to automatically assume everyone out there is faking is just wrong; it’s completely and utterly wrong.
And yes, depression IS a mental illness; it does NOT just go away. People do NOT just ‘get over it’. I will live with this disease probably my entire life. I, and so many others, will live with the CONSTANT mood swings and all that bitter resentment that comes with it.
So what I’m really getting at is; don’t just assume a cry for help is simply a cry for attention. Because in general, yes, it is. But yet it isn’t. It’s a cry wanting your attention so just maybe, you are that person who asks: ‘What’s wrong?’ Because more often than not, just someone knowing you care is going to make all the difference. And could potentially save a life.
I know this because I’ve been there; lots of people I call my friends or family generally just…ignore it or hope it goes away when I get to that point. Hell, a few admitted it to me themselves that they just hoped if they didn’t respond I’d ‘get over it’. I’m not resentful of it, because I realize they just don’t get it, and seeing someone with depression and the constant mood swings is a scary thing. And most of them probably think I’m using it as a crutch or an excuse. But I’m also very lucky to know a couple people recently who also suffer from depression and KNOW what it’s like and KNOW when I need someone’s shoulder to lean on. They are amazing people, and they’ve helped me so much. And it wasn’t much at all: just simply saying ‘I care’ makes all the difference in the world.
So uh…family and friends who ignore it and hope it goes away? I know it’s tough…really tough…but you’re not helping it at all. It will never just go away. Your loved one is relying on you, so be there for them.
And ahhh…that got a lot more personal than I meant for it; but whatever. I’ve said my piece.
